Building the global standard for brokerage infrastructure

Alpaca is a US-headquartered, self-clearing broker-dealer — the infrastructure layer behind how hundreds of financial institutions trade globally. Stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, 24/5 trading. The clients are neobrokers, RIAs, hedge funds, crypto exchanges, and wealth managers across 40 countries. The product is an institutional-grade API, and that distinction matters here.

The business raised $150M at a $1.15B valuation in its Series D and is backed by Portage Ventures, Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, Y Combinator, and others. It’s well-funded, growing fast, and building a product team to match.

Own brokerage products end to end

Alpaca runs a flat structure. PMs don’t sit in silos — you’ll work closely across Broker API, Trading, and Product Ops, and you’ll report directly to Hakan. There’s no committee to run decisions past and no one managing your calendar. What there is: real ownership, a technically sharp team, and a product that genuinely needs great people behind it.

The work spans strategy and delivery in equal measure. You’ll define what gets built and why, lead customer discovery, drive adoption, and hold yourself accountable to outcomes. Alpaca’s product is an API, so the best PMs here think like builders — they can prototype, they run their own analysis, and they treat the developer as their primary user. If adoption isn’t happening, that’s a product problem, not a sales problem.

Ten-plus years of experience is a strong preference, but the real filter is independence. Alpaca needs people who hit the ground running.

Day to day

You’ll own the brokerage product portfolio — strategy, roadmap, requirements, and shipping. That means writing PRDs and working directly with engineers to execute, leading customer calls to surface product issues and translate them into solutions, and engaging with external regulators as part of shaping product direction. You’ll track and report on product metrics clearly, make build-vs-buy calls, and consistently ask whether what you’re building is actually getting used.

On AI: Alpaca doesn’t care whether a PRD is written by a human or a tool. What they care about is whether it produces the right outcome. AI proficiency is a hard requirement here — used well, not used as a crutch.

The profile

You’ll have a technical foundation — an engineering background or CS degree, or the kind of hands-on depth that makes the distinction irrelevant. You can write your own SQL queries, do your own reporting, and you don’t outsource your analysis. You’ve worked on API-first or developer-facing products before, and you understand what that means for how you build, communicate, and prioritise.

Domain experience in fintech matters — brokerage, crypto, payments, KYC, or banking infrastructure. You don’t need to be a subject matter expert on day one, but you need to be a fast learner who can get there quickly without being led.

Must-haves

  • 10+ years in Product Management
  • Engineering background or equivalent technical depth
  • Fintech or brokerage domain experience
  • SQL — you run your own queries
  • API-first product experience
  • Strong AI proficiency

Strong advantages

  • Brokerage product depth (clearing, custody, routing)
  • Ability to prototype for customer demos
  • Crypto, payments, or KYC background
  • Startup or 0-to-1 experience
  • Comfort with regulators and institutional partners

Where you can be

Fully remote, open globally. In practice, you’ll need meaningful overlap with US East Coast hours — that’s where the team is most active. West Coast US through to the Middle East works well. European candidates are considered, but this isn’t a role that fits neatly into a European working day, and that’s worth being honest about upfront.

How hiring works

This search is being run exclusively by Anaïs Hubert at Arah Talent, who is dedicated to Alpaca’s hiring programme. The process has four stages: an initial conversation with Anaïs, a first interview with Hakan, a take-home analytical assignment followed by a panel presentation, and a final leadership interview with Hitoshi (Co-Founder). The assignment stage carries significant weight — it’s analytical and data-focused, and candidates present their findings directly to a panel of three or four people. We share the brief in advance so there are no surprises.

What’s on offer

Salary and equity, benchmarked competitively against your location. Alpaca calibrates to the top of market in each region rather than applying a global number. On top of base and stock options: health coverage, a one-time home office setup allowance of $500, and a $150 monthly equipment stipend via Brex.
